It mulls over the manifold interpretations of participation, types of participation, history of participatory practices and refers to examples of participatory development in different parts of the world. Later it leads to concise understanding of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), its evolution, philosophy, principles, tools and its application at variety of contexts around the globe. Further, it explains how the NGOs applied PRA in their activities and how people responded to it. It ponders over the benefits and challenges of doing PRA from the views of NGOs, staff and beneficiaries.
