Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens) - It is a houseplant ornamental plant in gardens, Lawns and indoors.  Areca palm is one of the most widely used palms for bright interiors. The Areca Palm is one of the most popular and graceful palms. It features feathery, arching fronds, each with up to 100 leaflets. These big, bold plants command attention. They grow 6–12 m (20–39 ft) in height. It grows in part shade to full sun. The Areca palm can get quite tall if planted outdoors. Indoors, it is a medium sized exotic looking plant that usually reaches a height of 6-8 feet; outdoors it may be as tall as 25 feet. Areca Palms require bright indirect light. Areca Palm is a non- poisonous plant. These are plants that detoxify the Air. It is tolerant of the indoor environment, releases copious amounts of moisture into the air. Additionally, the areca palm is consistently rated among the best houseplants for removing all indoor air toxins tested. A study by Wolverton has shown that an Areca Palm is effective in removing benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene from the air. According to NASA and Dr. B. C. Wolverton, the areca palm filters xylene and toluene from the air. The Areca Palm is also an excellent air humidifier. Wolverton also specifies that, at 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in) in height, the plant will transpire 1 liter of water per 24 hours, thereby making it an effective humidifier. Areca Palm was considered the most efficient air purifying plant. The big advantage these plants have is that they survive in areas of low light. These plants are thus ultra-efficient at capturing light, which also means they are very efficient in processing the gasses necessary for photosynthesis. Because of this fact, they have greater potential to absorb other gases, including potentially harmful ones. American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - ASPCA state this plant is non-toxic to pets, cats & dogs if ingested. They are also known as the Butterfly Palm.
