Age-by-age Diaper Guidelines

Diapering needs change as your baby grows. You can try different fits and styles to find out what works best.

  • Newborns:
    i) Newborns usually need diapers with extra stretch that will accommodate their rapid growth.
ii) Newborn diapers are less absorbent and need frequent change.
iii) These diapers usually come with a U-shaped hole cut out.
  • 5 to 8 months:
    i) At this stage, your baby needs diapers with a good fit. Choose diapers that can handle bigger messes as your baby will start eating and excreting solid foods.
ii) They should be extra absorbent and last longer.
  • 9 to 24 months:
    i) Now your toddler needs diapers that are more stretchable with stronger tabs.
ii) They need to be changed frequently to avoid skin rashes.
  • 24 months and above:
Your baby requires training pants at this stage, though diapers can be used while training your little ones for potty time.

Tips for Diapering a Baby

  • When buying diapers, purchase them in bulk once you are sure what size and fit is comfortable for your little one.
  • Baby wipes are your saviour for cleaning.
  • When you see a rash, don't hesitate to switch to another diaper brand with less chemicals.
  • Avoid using wipes when your baby has rashes. Use cotton balls or a washcloth dipped in warm water.
  • Set up multiple changing stations around your house to avoid rushing to your room every time there is a blow-out.
