General Features of Tuberose/Rajnigandha

• It grows in elongated spikes up to 30-45 cm long that produce clusters of fragrant waxy white flowers that bloom from the bottom towards the top of the spike
• It has long, bright green leaves clustered at the base of the plant and smaller, clasping leaves along the stem
• The bulb produces tall flower spikes with numerous tubular blooms and a fragrance that is rich, sultry and seductive
• Tuberose blooms throughout the year and its clustered spikes are rich in fragrance

• Climatic and Soil Requirements for Growing Tuberose/Rajnigandha

   

  • Grows well in an open sunny location, away from shade of trees. In very sunny, hot areas light shade is also fine
  • It requires warm and humid climate with temperature range from 20-35C although flowering is profuse under mild climate
  • Tropical conditions with a temperature range of 28 to 30C are most suitable for its cultivation
  • Temperature above 40C adversely affects the length of spike and quality of flowers. Very low temperature and frost damage the plants and flowers
  • The crop should be protected from strong winds and therefore, a place protected from strong winds is preferable
  • Crop flower profusely throughout the year, if the climate is mild and free from extremes of high and low temperatures
