Mirabai Ki Sangharsh Yatra
Hindi Biographical Novel on the Life of Mirabai
By Sudhakar Adib

2015     22 x 15 cm     448 pages

Sixteenth century saint-poet Mirabai needs no introduction. Described by Mahatma Gandhi as the ‘first Satyagrahi’ and by the Hindi poetess Mahadevi Verma as the symbol of the struggle for women’s emancipation in medieval times, Mirabai was part of a long lineage of Bhakti saints who came into prominence in medieval India.

Born in a royal family of Rajasthan, she was married to Bhojraj, the crown prince of Mewar. Most legends about Mirabai mention her fearless disregard for social and family conventions, her devotion to lord Krishna, her treating Krishna as her lover and husband, and her being persecuted by her in-laws for her religious devotion.

Thousands of devotional poems in passionate praise of Lord Krishna are attributed to Mirabai. But only a few hundred are believed to be authentic by scholars. These poems are known as bhajans and are popular all over India.
Hindu temples, such as in Chittorgarh fort, are dedicated to Mirabai's memory. Legends about Mirabai's life, of contested authenticity, have been the subject of movies, comic strips and other popular literature in modern times.
Here is an excellent, well researched novel based on the life of Mirabai. It has been written by Dr Sudhakar Andalib who has published another five novels, several short stories and collections of poetry.
