Alfie is a 14 year old orphaned midget. He has just one wish – to grow tall. He believes that would help him gain lots of adoring friends and even impress Charlene, the girl of his dreams. When I was a kid, I was introduced to the books written by Enid Blyton and Ruskin Bond. The language used to be simple and the stories used to be interesting and a slice of life. After years I was introduced to Alfie The Elf by Shaiju Mathew which took me back to my school days. Although the cover and the synopsis gave the feeling that it is a kids book, after I started reading the first chapter, I could not keep the book down. The story is fast paced and the characters are quite interesting. The way the author has weaved the Fairytale characters into the story is quite commendable. How I wish this book could be turned into an animation movie. A great read and a great way to go down the memory lane.
I happened to grab this book from a colleague of mine. Being an ardent fan of Comics the beautiful illustrations caught my attention. Once I read a couple of lines, I couldn't keep it down. Although targetted at kids, this book appealed to a total grown up like me. Have ordered a couple of copies for me to give it away to my nieces and nephew. A fantastic Christmas fantasy by the author.

This is a very good gift that one can give their kid as the story talks about hope and about how dreams can come true if you are passionate about it. I bought the book for my daughter but somehow I finished it before she could start reading. The way some of the fairy tale characters like tooth fairy and easter bunny etc. are weaved into the plotline is quite amazing. I would recommend this book to everyone - kids and adults equally.

While I read the book out to my baby girl, I got lost in the magical world of Alfie. Although my baby slept I still kept on reading as I could not keep it down making me relive those fantasy filled days during my childhood. This book is a must for every child in today's time. Talks about dreams and wish fulfillment and how one can stand out in the crowd if one has a pure heart and a loving soul. Wonderful book. Highly recommended.
I got this book as a gift for my friend's kid. However, when the book arrived, I was tempted to read it. The story is quite engaging and very cute. Branding it as a kid's storybook is criminal because anybody who has a flair for reading a good story is the audience. I also read the part where the author had to go through a lot of issues to bring this book out into the market. I salute the determination of the author to bring out the book and I feel if he wouldn't have got it out then we would have lost out on our chance to read a great book. Shaiju Mathew is India's answer to Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl I have become a fan for life. Waiting for the next in the Alfie series.
