Distribution Of Wetlands In India And Economic Valuation Of Lesser Known Wetlands In Eastern Himalayas

Whether they are mangroves, paddy fields or lakes, they are disappearing or are getting degraded due to urbanization, industrial and agricultural activities and other formal and informal encroachments from various economic agents. Wetland ecosystems provide innumerable tangible and intangible benefits to the economy but their contribution is ignored due to their public good/common property nature and as a result they are depleting and degrading overtime. With this background, this book reports on the distribution of wetlands in various states of the country. An attempt is also made to conduct the economic evaluation of a few wetlands in Eastern Himalayas. This book will be relevant to the policy making in the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Tourism, DoNER etc. This book is also a valuable source of information for the environmentalists, environmental economists, environmental scientists and researchers.

<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->Dr. Fames Linggi is currently working as Assistant Professor of Economics at Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu. He has done his post graduation and Ph.D. from Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills. He is currently associated with the research on environmental economics and household industry.


Prof. Amitava Mitra is currently a senior professor in the Department of Economics, Rajiv Gandhi University (Central), Itanagar. He has done his post graduation from the Centre of Economics Studies and Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and was awarded a Ph.D from Dibrugarh University, Assam. He has been associated with teaching and research, and has been a top level administrator at Rajiv Gandhi University for last thirty six years. He was also a Fulbright Fellow in Academic Administration in 2014. He has authored several books and a large number of research papers in reputed national and international journals in areas of environmental economics, policy, and development economics.
