1.     बिल्व पत्र का भगवान शंकर के पूजन में विशेष महत्व है जिसका प्रमाण शास्त्रों में मिलता है। बिल्वाष्टक और शिव पुराण में इसका स्पेशल उल्लेख है। अन्य कई ग्रंथों में भी इसका उल्लेख मिलता है। भगवान शंकर एवं पार्वती को बिल्व पत्र चढ़ाने का विशेष महत्व है। 

2.   भगवान शिव की प्रसन्नता के लिए पूजा में कुछ विशेष पूजा सामग्री को चढ़ाने का महत्व है। इनमें बेलपत्र, सफेद फूल के साथ धतूरा चढ़ाना बहुत शुभ माना जाता है। बेलपत्र की तरह धतूरा भी शिव को प्रिय बताया गया है। हालांकि धतूरा जहरीला फल होता है। लेकिन सनातन धर्म से जुड़ा हर जन यह जानता है कि शिव ने समुद्र मंथन से निकले गरल यानी जहर को पीकर ही जगत की रक्षा की।

3.   शास्त्रों अनुसार आंकड़े के फूल शिवलिंग पर चढ़ाने से सभी मनोकामनाएं पूर्ण हो जाती हैं और अक्षय पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है। आंकड़े पौधा मुख्यद्वार पर या घर के सामने हो तो बहुत शुभ माना जाता है।
